Frequently asked questions about RMF licensing, architecture, and compatibility.
What is the pricing structure?
We charge a one-time license fee per camera MAC address. In addition, there is an annual software support cost (Care Plus) which covers software updates and remote assistance.
Do RMF and SureStream need separate licenses?
Yes. RMF and SureStream require individual licenses. Both are licensed per MAC address. You can deploy RMF by itself, SureStream by itself, or both together depending on your redundancy needs.
Do I need extra XProtect Device Licenses for dual recording?
No. Milestone XProtect is licensed per device, irrespective of how many recorders record the same stream, as long as they share the same SLC (Software License Code). Even in Federated Architectures, recording the same camera on both parent and child sites counts as one device license.
Do you work with other VMS besides Milestone XProtect?
No. We work exclusively with Milestone XProtect to ensure deep integration and API-level stability.
Does your software need separate servers?
No, our software functions directly on your existing Milestone XProtect servers, saving you hardware costs. However, if you choose redundant video recording, you will naturally need redundant Milestone XProtect recording servers/storage.
What flavors of Milestone XProtect do you support?
We support all XProtect versions from Professional+ and up (Expert, Corporate, etc.).
How often do you release software?
We have at least one major release immediately following each major Milestone XProtect release to ensure compatibility.
Do you charge for architectural consultation?
No. Our consultation does not cost anything. We take the time to understand your objectives, budget constraints, and workflows to recommend the best redundancy architecture for your needs.
